I represent Lucy Thomas Brooke. I was the wife of Brevet Colonel George Mercer Brooke, who commanded the U.S. army troops in Pensacola at the time of the transition. I accompanied my husband to Pensacola and later to Cantonment Clinch, but illness took a toll on my health and on the lives of my children. I eventually died in 1839 at the age of 35, after Colonel Brooke had been transferred away from Florida.
