I represent Doña Maria Felicita Lavalle, the widow of Luis Gagnet (also spelled Gañe), a blanca woman born in Mobile. I was listed in the 1784 census of Pensacola as a 19-year-old newlywed in the household of my husband.
At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 57 years old, widowed, and living in a household with my three adult children. My death notice in the Pensacola Gazette in 1844 says I was 89, and the record of my burial at St. Michael’s says I died at 90 – both of which are a bit off previous estimates of my age.
