I represent Margarita, a parda girl enslaved in the household of Don Francisco Bonal. I was baptized by Father Coleman at St. Michael’s on October 7, 1817, at which time my age was estimated at about five years old. The record does not name either of my parents, and it appears my godparents were also enslaved people of color. My baptismal record states I was a native of the Mississippi Territory. I would have been about 9 years old at the changing of the flags.
