I represent Andrew Mitchell. Not much is known about me, but I appear on a deed purchasing land in the area of Turvin’s Bluff in Escambia County from Thomas Thrift in March 1820, and I was included in an 1824 list of claimants to land that had been lived on and cultivated between 1819 and 1821. Together with William H. McCurdy, in 1822 I wrote to Stephen Austin in Texas inquiring about moving there (I identified myself as a “poor farmer”), but as I married Eloise Franklin in 1828 in Escambia County, I must have not liked the answer.
