Augustine Noriega

I represent Agustina Noriega, an enslaved mulata woman in the household of Victoire LeSassier. I was named in Victoire LeSassier’s 1830 complaint of divorce from Don Pedro de Alba as being 8 years old, though this probably referred to my age in 1813, when the late Don Jose Noriega’s property was divided between Victoire and her son. By the time of the divorce, I had four children, all under the age of 5, and we had all been sold to Victoire’s nephew, Ferdinand Christin. I was mentioned again in Victoire’s will of 1833, where she ratified the sale.
