I represent Bertrand Suchet – also seen as Beltran and sometimes Souchet – a European man believed to have been born in France. I first appeared in Pensacola in the census of 1784 as a 30-year-old, living with an enslaved negra woman of 19 named Juana, and Maria Josefa, a free mulata infant of 4 months. I appeared in several records regarding land transactions, beginning as early 1787. By October of 1821, I was living in Havana, Cuba. One 1828 document in the deed records recalls that in 1818 I indebted myself to Dr. Juan Alech for $75 for medical care for my family and servants. Henry Michelet paid the debt, and so I secured my debt to Michelet with a half lot on Government Street. Despite the records of transactions involving either myself or my heirs, information on my life and relationships is absurdly difficult to find.
