Don Francisco Bonal

I represent Don Francisco Bonal, a European man born in Cataluña, Spain. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 55 years old and was a local merchant. I lived with Emilia Mombrun, a free woman of color, and our by the time of the changing of the flag – four children. Families of mixed ethnicity like ours were quite common in Spanish West Florida, as the Spanish did not have the same social taboos as Anglo-American society.
