Don Lorenzo Bru

I represent Don Lorenzo Bru, a European man from Cataluña, Spain. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 43 years old. I lived with my wife, Doña Josefa Vidal Bru, and our two young children. In the census my occupation is given as “sailor,” but in an 1819 New Orleans court case I was named as the Captain of the Schooner Filomena. (The Filomena was captured by privateers en route to Pensacola from Havana, then recaptured by an American Naval vessel. The suit regarded the disposition of its impounded cargo.)
