I represent Don Manuel Gonzalez, a blanco man born in Louisiana. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 19 years old and single. I lived in the household of Don Antonio Molina and his wife, and one other adult male. The census record is silent as to my relationship with anyone else in the household. I most likely worked as a fisherman. (Note: There were three men named Manuel Gonzalez in the Pensacola area at the time: Me, a Don Manuel Gonzalez who was a wealthy rancher, and a Don Manuel Gonzalez who was a pulpero – which can be translated as grocer or tavernkeeper.)
