Father James (Santiago) Coleman

I represent Father James Coleman (known as Santiago Colman among the Spanish). I was the priest at St. Michael’s parish in Pensacola, as well as the Vicar General and Ecclesiastical Judge of West Florida. I was born in Rathory, County Louth, Ireland, and trained at the Irish College of Salamanca. West Florida was always in need of priests who spoke both Spanish and English, to ensure all the local Catholics were adequately served. I owned several lots and tracts of land in Pensacola area, including one known as “Coleman’s Grant.” I also owned at least one slave.
