George W. Barkley

I represent George W. Barkley. I was born in 1793 in England. In 1817, I emigrated to Baltimore, Maryland. I came to Pensacola as a merchant in 1820. In 1822, I married Clara Garnier, the daughter of Judge John Garnier. I was not quite 28 years old at the changing of the flags. I became Customs Inspector in the new city government and later joined my father-in-law, John Garnier, in business as an auctioneer. Clara and I had 4 children. I am buried in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
