Henry Ahrens

I represent Henry Ahrens. I was 37 years old in 1821, a native of Germany. On my tombstone in St. Michael’s Cemetery, it says I died 23 MAY 1870 age 86 yrs 2 mos “having resided in Pensacola fifty-one years.” The 1870 mortality schedule gives my birthplace as “Bv,” which may mean Bavaria.

In the 1850 census and in the 1870 mortality schedule for Escambia County, my occupation is given as tailor; however, I was elected as an Alderman of Pensacola in 1825, and was elected to serve as a Director of Fire Company No. 2 in 1826. My 1866 will indicates I had a sister, the widow Elizabeth J. Mardauss, living in Mecklenburg, Germany; and a nephew in Pensacola, Charles Ahrens.
