I represent Horatio Biglow (also spelled Bigelow). I was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1790 and I attended Harvard University. I studied law, but worked in newspapers. Just before I came to Pensacola, I was involved in the Long expedition, which attempted to declare Texas a free and independent republic in 1819. I edited a newspaper in Texas. In the very first edition of The Floridian, published in August 1821, I ran an advertisement for my law office, letting Pensacolians know I would be practicing in “the several Courts of West Florida, and in Alabama.” I offered translation services in English, Spanish, and French. I later returned to Texas to continue my newspaper work there.
