Judith (Noriega)

I represent Judith, an enslaved negra woman in the household of Victoire LeSassier. I am listed in the 1791 Holy Visit to Pensacola by the Bishop of Tricali as having made confession and taken communion in 1791. I was listed in Victoire LeSassier’s 1830 complaint of divorce from Don Pedro de Alba as being a cook; I was 57 years old, though this probably referred to my age in 1813, when the late Don Jose Noriega’s property was divided between Victoire and her son. By the time of the divorce, I was listed as being 80-90 years of age, though this math doesn’t really work out. According to a damaged record of a confirmation in Pensacola in 1798, I may have had a son named Pedro, who was also enslaved in this household.
