Julie (Pargas)

I represent Julie Pargas, an enslaved negra woman in the household of Bernardo Pargas and Ortauna Maria del Carmen, the free woman of color who shared his home. At the time of the changing of the flags, I would have been about 31 years old. In his 1836 will, Bernardo bequeathed to Ortauna five years of my service, at the end of which time I was to be freed by the executors of his estate. This was carried out by Deed of Manumisison in 1842.
