Manuel (Noriega)

I represent Manuel, an enslaved mulato man in the household of Victoire LeSassier. I was confirmed in Pensacola on May 7, 1798, by the Bishop of Louisiana and the Floridas, Rev. Luis Peñalver y Cardenas. My mother Ester (an enslaved negra woman in the same household) is listed in the record. I was named in the court papers associated with the 1830 divorce of Don Pedro de Alba and Victoire LeSassier as being among the property that Victoire LeSassier brought to her marriage with Don Pedro de Alba. The inventory was done in 1813, but it is unclear whether my age of 19 years was current in 1813 or before that, at the time of Don Jose’s death. Unlike my mother and my sister, Charlotte, I am not mentioned in Mme. LeSassier’s 1833 will.
