I represent Manuel Peñalver, a European man born in Aldeire, Granada, Spain around 1764. My parents were Antonio and Manuela Alcalde Peñalver. I married Juana Josepha Antonia Benites in New Orleans in 1800, when I was working as an “employee of the royal revenues at the local customs house.” At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 56 years old, a sailor. Juana and I had seven children.
