Manuel Silvestre (Bonifay)

I represent Manuel Silvestre, an enslaved mulato male in the household of Don Manuel Bonifay. My mother was Maria Rosa, an enslaved negra woman in the same household. I was confirmed in Pensacola on May 7, 1798, by the Bishop of Louisiana and the Floridas, Rev. Luis Peñalver y Cardenas. Because the Bishop visited the area so infrequently, young people and converts of all ages were confirmed whenever the opportunity arose; thus, my age is impossible to determine – though I was probably a young child since my mother is named in the record.
