I represent Maria Dolores Gonzalez Bonifay, a blanca woman living in Pensacola at the time of the changing of the flags. My baptism record says I was born in St. Bernard (also called English Turn,) Louisiana in 1803, though my marriage record says I was from Natchez, Mississippi. My parents were Felix and Josefa Rodriguez Gonzalez. All of my grandparents were from the Canary Islands. On March 19, 1813, I married Jose Bonifay at St. Michael’s in Pensacola. At the time of the 1820 census in Pensacola, I was 18 years old. Jose and I had three young children.
