I represent Mariana, a negra woman enslaved in the household of Lt. Arnauld Guillemard. I appear in my son’s 1820 baptismal record from St. Michael’s. Eduardo was born into slavery by virtue of my enslaved status, and his father was listed as no conocido (unknown) – though this usually means the man either did not want, or was unable, to acknowledge the child.
