I represent Marie, an enslaved negra woman in the household of Victoire LeSassier. I was listed in Victoire LeSassier’s 1830 complaint of divorce from Don Pedro de Alba as being a cook and laundress; I was 27 years old, though this probably referred to my age in 1813, when the late Don Jose Noriega’s property was divided between Victoire and her son. I had a son, Phillipe, who was a year and a half. In Victoire’s 1833 will, I and my son were bequeathed to her niece, Emilie Noriega Hubbell. She and her husband, Loring C. Hubbell, freed me in 1838.
