I represent Nancy Gorman, a free parda woman born in Baltimore. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 47 years old and worked as a laundress. I lived with Don Francisco Bellestre. It is likely that Don Francisco and I were living as husband and wife as the Spanish did not have the same social taboos against this as the Anglo-Americans. In my 1827 Will, which I gave in Spanish, I said I had four children who were slaves and I had not heard news of them in over 20 years.
