I represent Pedro, an enslaved man in the household of Victoire LeSassier. I was named in Victoire LeSassier’s 1830 complaint of divorce from Don Pedro de Alba as being a carretero, which can be interpreted as either a carter or drayman. I was 25 years old, though this probably referred to my age in 1813, when the late Don Jose Noriega’s property was divided between Victoire and her son. It is possible I am the Pedro listed has having been confirmed in Pensacola on May 7, 1798, by the Bishop of Louisiana and the Floridas, Rev. Luis Peñalver y Cardenas – the document is damaged and it is not clear, but if it was me, I was a son of Judith.
