I represent Robert Watkins Walton. I was the son of George and Sarah Minge Walker Walton, and the grandson of George Walton, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and his wife, Dorothy Walton. I was born in 1810 in Augusta, Georgia, so I was a child at the time of the changing of the flags. My father was appointed by General Andrew Jackson to be the Secretary of the Territory of West Florida under the new American government. I moved with them to Pensacola in 1821. My father served as acting Governor of the Florida Territory after Jackson left, then as Mayor of Mobile. I stayed with my mother after my parents separated due to his legal and financial indiscretions. I was serving as Mayor of Mobile when I died there in 1849 and am buried in Magnolia Cemetery.
