I represent Rosa, a mulata woman enslaved in the household of Don Manuel Bonifay. I appear in my daughter’s 1819 baptismal record from St. Michael’s. Maria Ursula was born into slavery by virtue of my enslaved status, and her father was listed as no conocido or unknown – which usually means the man either does not want, or is not able, to acknowledge the child.
