Suckey (Villaverde)

Photo representing Suckey (Villaverde)

Represented by Tori Woods

I represent Suckey, an enslaved negra woman in the household of Antonio Villaverde. I was freed in his will of August 1821, along with another enslaved negra woman, Diana. The will also ratifies the earlier manumission of two children, Manuel and Francisco, who are said to be “their” [Suckey and Diana’s] negro children, without specifying the maternity of either.
