I represent Vicente Vicens, a European man born in Aragon, Spain. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 53 years old and making my living as a pulpero, which can be translated as grocer or tavernkeeper. I was single and lived alone. In 1804, I purchased half of lot 66 on Zaragoza Street from Julie, a free woman of color. This is the Julie who owned the house now known as the Julee Cottage, and as she sold me the frame house “built at my [Julie’s] individual expense,” it may well be the house that was later moved to its present location on East Zaragossa St.
