I represent Victoria, a negra woman enslaved in the household of Don Enrique Michelet. I appear in my daughters’ baptismal records from St. Michael’s: Juana in 1817 and Maria Encarnación in 1819. They were born into slavery by virtue of my enslaved status, and their father was listed as no conocido (unknown) – though this usually means the man either did not want, or was unable, to acknowledge the child.
