Victoria Simon

I represent Victoria Simon, a free parda girl born in Pensacola. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 4 years old. I lived with my parents: Francisco Simon, a blanco fisherman, and Maria Candelaria, a free parda woman; and my two siblings. Families of mixed ethnicity like ours were quite common in Spanish West Florida, as the Spanish did not have the same social taboos as Anglo-American society. I may have used Francisco’s surname.
