I represent Eugenio Latady. I am the son of 2nd Lt. Mariano Latady, a Spanish officer, and Emerante Krebs Latady. I was born 22 May 1806 in Pensacola, so I would have been 15 years old at the changing of the flags. After the Americans took over, my father was one of the officers asked to stay behind and assist former Spanish governor Jose Callava in completing the transition of power. He was among the officers who publicly protested the rude treatment of Governor Callava during the Vidal affair and was ordered deported by General Andrew Jackson. He died in Cuba, while my mother and I stayed behind. I eventually married Margaret Dineen in Mobile, and we had two sons, Eugene and Albert. I died in Mobile, Alabama, on 18 October 1862, and am buried with my wife in Catholic Cemetery there.
