I represent Menti, a negra woman enslaved in the household of Don Juan Innerarity. I appear in my children’s baptismal records, both of them baptized on June 19, 1819. Ysabel, who was born in the Tallapoosa Nation, and Florencio were enslaved by virtue of my enslaved status, and their fathers were listed as no conocido (unknown) – though this usually means the man either did not want, or was unable, to acknowledge the child.
