Carlota (Ruby)

I represent Carlota, an enslaved negra woman in the household of Salvador Ruby, a free man of color in Pensacola. I appear in the 1820 baptismal record of my daughter, Maria Andrea, whom Salvador freed at baptism. I am named in Maria Carlota Ruby‘s will of 14 September 1823 – presumably she inherited me from him at his death. In the 1820 census of Pensacola, Salvador and Maria Carlota had 9 children.
