I represent James G. Forbes. I was born in 1769 in New York. I entered the army during the War of 1812 as a Major. Later, I acted as an agent of the U.S. Government in obtaining the official orders for the transfer of Florida from the Captain General of Cuba. My delayed arrival on the U.S. Sloop of War HORNET was the reason General Andrew Jackson remained camped outside of town; he refused to enter Pensacola without official permission to do so.
