I represent Don Jose Gonzalez, a blanco man born in Pensacola. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 17 years old. I was the son of the rancher Manuel Gonzalez, a Spaniard, and Maria Bonifay Gonzalez. Our house outside of town was where General Andrew Jackson and his troops camped when he first arrived in the area. Our household was large and consisted of my parents and 8 siblings, including two who were married and had small children.
My burial appears in the records of St. Michael’s parish: February 26, 1863; I died in Greenville, Alabama.
