I represent Doña Maria Luisa Bonifay Gonzalez, a blanca woman born in Pensacola. I was a daugher of Mariana Pingrow and Jose Bonifay.
At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 40 years old. I was married to Don Manuel Gonzalez, a wealthy Spanish rancher. Our house outside of town was where General Andrew Jackson and his troops camped when he first arrived in the area. Our household was large and consisted of my husband and I and our children – we had 9 at the time, but 2 are not listed in the census, for some reason – including two who were married and had small children.
My death appears in the burial records of St. Michael’s parish: September 30, 1860 at the age of 82.
