I represent Doña Antonia Juliana de la Rua, a blanca woman born in Louisiana. My parents were Francisco de la Rua of Madrid, and Josefa Suarez Falcon de la Rua, of the city of Tirajana in the Canary Islands. I was confirmed in Pensacola on May 7, 1798, by the Bishop of Louisiana and the Floridas, Rev. Luis Peñalver y Cardenas. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 22 years old, living with my widowed mother and four siblings. Between the census and the changing of the flags, though, I married Don Sebastian Caro, on April 20, 1821 at St. Michael’s.
