I represent Doña Maria Isabel de la Rua Gonzalez, a blanca woman born in Pensacola. My parents were Francisco and Josefa Suarez Falcon de la Rua. I married Celestino Gonzalez at St. Michael’s on August 10 – probably 1816 but the last two digits of the date are illegible.
At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 18 years old and we had an infant son. Celestino was a son of the rancher Manuel Gonzalez, a Spaniard. Our house outside of town was where General Andrew Jackson and his troops camped when he first arrived in the area. Our household was large and consisted of my in-laws and their 9 children, including one other besides Celestino who was married and had a small child.
