Don Col. Celestino Gonzalez

I represent Don Celestino Gonzalez, a blanco man born in Pensacola. My parents were Manuel and Maria Bonifay Gonzalez. I married Maria Isabel de la Rua at St. Michael’s on August 10 – probably 1816 but the last two digits of the date are illegible.

At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 25 years old and Maria and I had one child. I was a son of the rancher Manuel Gonzalez, a Spaniard, and our house outside of town was where General Andrew Jackson and his troops camped when he first arrived in the area. Our household was large and consisted of my parents and 8 siblings, including one other who was married and had a small child.

A record of my burial appears in the records of St. Michael’s parish: July 23, 1844 at the age of 48.
