I represent Maria Henrietta Innerarity, a blanca girl born in Pensacola. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 12 years old and lived with my parents: Don John Innerarity, a merchant; and Maria Victoria de Villiers Innerarity. I had four siblings.
In 1828 I married Capt. Henry Wilson of the U.S. Army 4th Regiment. My obituary in the Times-Picayune tells the story of how I met my husband: My father was embroiled in a dispute with General Andrew Jackson about the trade privileges of his company (John Forbes & Co.). When Jackson ordered my father’s arrest, it was Captain Wilson, a member of his staff, who came to carry out the order.
We moved to New Orleans in 1853 and I spent the rest of my life there. I died March 5, 1871, and I am buried in LaFayette Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans.
