I represent Mariana Pingrow Bonifay Lavalle. I appeared in the 1784 census of Pensacola in the household of my first husband, Jose Domingo Bonifay, along with three children, three enslaved Black people and one free negra woman. I was the daughter of F. Pingrow and Josefa Le Compte of Nantes, France. I married Joseph Bonifay in Santo Domingo; he died in 1800. My next marriage I characterized as a “community of interest” with my business partner, Don Carlos Lavalle, which dissolved in 1822. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 65 years old, living with my husband, Don Carlos Lavalle, and four of my children, including one widowed daughter and her young daugher. I had ten children altogether.
