Joaquina (Gayarre)

I represent Joaquina, a mulata woman enslaved in the household of Don Luis Gayarre. I appear in my daughter’s 1817 baptismal record from St. Michael’s. Ysabel Parbula was born into slavery by virtue of my enslaved status, and her father was not mentioned – which usually means the man either did not want, or was unable, to acknowledge the child.
