I represent Marcos Tio, a free pardo boy born in Pensacola in late 1819. I was baptized by Father Coleman at St. Michael’s on May 2, 1820. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 1 year old. I lived with my parents, Marcos Tio – a shopkeeper – and Carolina Maura. They were both free people of color. Our name is also seen spelled “Fio.”
