I represent Rachel Donelson Robards Jackson. I was born in 1767 in Virginia. My family was among the first white settlers of Nashville. I married a young lawyer named Andrew Jackson in the early 1790s. I accompanied my husband to Pensacola and, in fact, settled into a home in downtown Pensacola while Jackson and the American troops remained at 15 Mile House or Galvez Springs. I had several slaves and servants in the household. I found Pensacola dazzling with its variety of people, languages and cultures – though I frowned upon the lack of appropriate piety on Sundays. That was one of the first things I had my husband change when he took charge of the city government! After the transition, General Jackson returned to politics, but my health began to decline. I passed away just after he won the presidential election, never having served as First Lady.
