Samuel Zacharias Gonzalez

Represented by June Hendrix Luker

I represent Don Samuel Zacharias Gonzalez, a blanco boy born in Pensacola. For some reason, I am not listed in the 1820 census of Pensacola, but my gravestone in St. Michael’s cemetery clearly states that I was born in 1817 and that I was a son of the rancher Manuel Gonzalez, a Spaniard, and Maria Luisa Bonifay. My family’s ranch outside of town was where General Andrew Jackson and his troops camped when he first arrived in the area. Our household was large and consisted of my parents and 8 siblings, including two who were married and had small children.

I died on March 6, 1907 at nearly 90 years old (my burial record helpfully notes that I died of old age.)
