I represent Ursula, a negra woman enslaved in the household of Don Miguel Quigles. I appear in my childrens’ 1817, 1819, and 1821 baptismal records from St. Michael’s. Andres, Rafael, and Juana Francisca were born into slavery by virtue of my enslaved status, and their father was listed as no conocido (unknown) – though this usually means the man either did not want, or was unable, to acknowledge the children.
Researchers are still investigating whether I am the same woman as Ursela (Prieto).
