Cesario Sebastian Jose (Vilaseca)

I represent Cesario Sebastian Jose (called Sebastian), a boy of color enslaved in the household of Don Tomas Vilaseca. I was baptized by Father Coleman at St. Michael’s on April 11, 1819, a couple of months after my birth. My mother was Julia, a negra woman enslaved in the same household. I was born into slavery by virtue of her enslaved status. My father is listed as no conocido (unknown) but that usually means that the man either did not want or was not able to acknowledge me.

In 1829, I, my mother, and my three brothers were sold to Francisco Bobe for a total of $2,000. I was described as a mulatto boy 10 years old, born in the house of Tomas Vilaseca.
