Don Filomeno de la Rua

I represent Don Filomeno E. de la Rua, a blanco boy born in Pensacola. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 6 years old. I lived with my father, Juan de la Rua, a local merchant; my mother, Margarita Bonifay de la Rua; my big sister; a free negra woman and another single blanca woman whose relationship to us is unclear.

I married Octavia Henrietta Yniestra on May 23,1842 and served for over 35 years as Clerk of Court in Escambia County. I died on November 27, 1891 and am buried in St. Michael’s Cemetery. My burial record indicates I died of heart disease.
