Don James Joaquin Gonzalez

I represent Don James Joaquin Gonzalez, a blanco boy born in Pensacola. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 3 years old. I was a son of the rancher Manuel Gonzalez, a Spaniard, and Maria Bonifay Gonzalez. Our house outside of town was where General Andrew Jackson and his troops camped when he first arrived in the area. Our household was large and consisted of my parents and 8 siblings, including two who were married and had small children.

On November 17, 1834, I married Doña Petronela de la Rua in Pensacola.  I died of asthma at the age of 73; my burial appears in the records of St. Michael’s parish: December 12, 1887. I am buried in St. Michael’s cemetery.
