Felonis (Crespo)

Photo representing Felonis (Crespo)

Represented by Christine Crespo

I represent Felonis, an enslaved negra girl in the household of Doña Josefa Palmes, the widow Crespo. In 1823 she sold me to John de la Rua for $400, describing me as the same slave she purchased from the estate of Vicente Crespo in March of 1810, when I would have been about 5 years old. A few months later, John de la Rua sold me to Capt. Richard M. Sands of the U.S. Army 4th Infantry for $425. Captain Sands sold me to Thomas Wright, Paymaster of the U.S. Army, in November of 1826 for $400, then Thomas Wright sold me to John Campbell in March of 1827 for $375. There is a story there, waiting to be told.
