I represent Francisco, a boy of color enslaved in the household of Don Pedro Philibert. I was baptized by Father Coleman at St. Michael’s on May 3, 1821, when I was almost a year old. My mother was Celeste, a mulata woman enslaved in the same household. I was born into slavery by virtue of her enslaved status. My father is not mentioned in my baptismal record, which usually means that the man either did not want or was not able to acknowledge me.
